Brazoria County: Alvin area given 'all clear' after gas leak

About 20 homes were evacuated Wednesday after a natural gas pipeline was ruptured in Hillcrest Village.

The Alvin, Texas area has been given the "all clear" following a natural gas leak nearby, according to Brazoria County officials.

What we know:

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, a natural gas pipeline was damaged in Hillcrest Village on Fairway Drive.

At about 1 p.m., officials say 20 homes in the immediate area were evacuated. Anyone in homes or businesses within a half-mile radius of the Hillcrest Golf Course were being asked to leave the until the leak was fixed.

Shortly after 5 p.m., county officials reported that the leak was contained and residents could return home safely.

What we don't know:

There is no information on how the pipeline was ruptured.
