HCA Houston Healthcare "began the realignment of selected service lines" at their northwest Houston hospitals last week, the company says, and the human resources department is working with 586 employees at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital affected.

HCA Houston Healthcare VP of Strategic Communications Sean Burnett released this statement:

“Last week HCA Houston Healthcare began the realignment of selected service lines at our northwest Houston hospitals. With a strong healthcare presence in that area, we are making changes we believe will help us better serve the communities in the northwest region.

The realignment began with the transition of Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital from a full-service facility to a freestanding emergency room. This transition is expected to be complete April 18, 2019. The facility will become a campus of HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball. The northwest region will continue to be served by HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball and six off-campus provider-based emergency departments.

We have expanded inpatient capabilities at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress by adding 24 patient beds to serve its growing specialties in orthopedics, oncology, neuroscience and general surgery. Additionally, we are committing $16 million in capital improvements at the hospital to three new operating rooms and an additional cardiac catheterization lab for cardiovascular procedures.

The labor and delivery services at nearby HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest will add staff to support its Level III neonatal care. The facility will continue to offer Level II trauma care.

Our human resources department is currently working directly with the 586 employees at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital affected by this realignment. At this point, about 200 employees have been offered opportunities at other facilities within HCA Houston Healthcare. Another approximately 100 employees are in the process of being tendered offers while others are in different stages of the recruiting process within HCA Houston Healthcare. Of the remaining employees, many have either accepted voluntary severance or are retiring.”
