Tropical Weather Forecast: Monitoring area for potential development in the Gulf

We're still early into the 2026 Atlantic basin hurricane season, but there's already an area to watch for tropical development. This area is located in the Southwestern Gulf in the Bay of Campeche. National hurricane center gives a 10% chance for tropical cyclone formation over the next 2 to 7 days.  Tropical depression Cristina will weaken over Central America Thursday and Friday and re-emerge into the southern Gulf this weekend.  Right now models take whatever is left of the system into eastern Mexico. But some of the tropical moisture will likely head towards Houston early next week increasing our rain chances. There are no other areas of concern in the Gulf, Caribbean or Atlantic.
