Pontiac woman accused of pouring boiling water on teen

When the fight ended, police say Cohen went inside her home and took out a pot of boiling water. She then allegedly took it outside and approached the 15-year-old and poured the pot of hot water onto her back. The teen was taken to the hospital after suffering extensive burns. She has third-degree burns to her neck and the majority of her back.

A Michigan woman is under arrest after deputies say she admitted to pouring boiling water on a teenage girl during a fight.

On Sunday, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office says they were called out to the area of Leonard Lane at 7 p.m. for a large fight. When police arrived, they found 50 to 100 people who were gathered in the parking lot.

What we know:

Deputies say their investigation determined that the 15-year-old girl and Shanell Lakeisha Cohen, 31, became involved in a physical altercation and when the fight ended, Cohen went inside her home and took out a pot of boiling water and poured the pot of hot water onto the teen's back.

On Thursday, deputies said Cohen came to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Pontiac Substation and was interviewed by detectives and during the interview admitted to pouring the hot water on the teen.  She was then arrested and transported to the Oakland County Jail.

The Sheriff's Office says the teen suffered extensive burns and was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital and later transferred to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit due to the severity of her injuries.  Deputies say she remains hospitalized with third-degree burns to her neck and the majority of her back.

What they're saying:

"We have another sad example of a verbal dispute, escalating into dangerous physical violence. Individuals that do so will be held to account," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

Cohen was arraigned on Thursday where her bond was set at $75,000 cash or surety. 

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Oct. 13.
