CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will lower the speed limit on part of State Highway 361, near Port Aransas, and is seeking the public's input on additional safety improvements for the infamous coastal roadway.

What we know:
TxDOT announced that the highway’s speed limit will drop from 60 mph to 50 mph on Tuesday, Aug. 25 between Park Road 22 and a point south of Beach Access Road 1A, in Port Aransas.
Electronic message boards will display the new 50 mph limit along the corridor to notify drivers about the change after it takes effect.
TxDOT officials urge motorists to remain alert, follow posted speed limits and adjust their driving habits.

TxDOT also announced it is accepting public comments and ideas for safety improvements on the stretch of SH 361 between Corpus Christi and Port Aransas.
Comments can be emailed to SH361_Safety@txdot.gov through the next two weeks.
The agency said the feedback will help shape a public town hall, tentatively planned for early to mid-September on Mustang Island.
New safety signs and live traffic cameras

TxDOT said it has recently deployed five portable message signs along the route, including four with cameras that allow the public to view road conditions in real time on DriveTexas.org.
The agency also placed six electronic signs that display motorists’ speeds and remind drivers of the posted limit.
