Are thousands of people in Houston dealing with housing discrimination based on race or socioeconomic factors? The people affected cannot find a landlord who will rent to them and it is perfectly legal for them to be denied.
The potential renters say many landlords and apartment complexes are more than willing to show the potential tenants what they have available but the moment that those potential renters ask if housing vouchers are accepted, the doors are shut in their faces.
Texas state law says landlords do not have to accept housing vouchers. However, proposed Texas House Bill 1257 would allow each city to determine if landlords are required to accept the vouchers.
