La Marque apartment complex evacuated due to discovery of explosive material

UPDATE: At approximately 4:30 PM the apartment where the search was being conducted by the bomb squad was rendered safe and the explosive material was removed.

The explosive material was that of commercial grade fireworks and equipment. The fireworks were in a process of being disassembled and reassembled, suspected to make a device with a more powerful explosion.  At this time, the intent by the suspects on what they were going to do with the fireworks and their possession of such material is under investigation.

Several Law Enforcement agencies assisted in this initial investigation which included the local FBI Office, Texas City Police Department Bomb Squad,  and the Bay Area Regional Bomb Squad.

The La Marque Police Department is requesting anyone with information pertaining to this incident make contact with the La Marque Police Department or the La Marque Crime Stoppers.

PREVIOUS REPORT: The La Marque Police Department has evacuated an apartment complex due to a discovery of explosive material.

Police were conducting a narcotics search at the apartment complex located at 411 Ave A in  La Marque, and upon conducting the search, officer's located the explosive material.

The regional area Bomb Squad was summoned to the scene to conduct an assessment. At this time there has been an evacuation of tenants that reside at the apartment complex.

Interviews are currently being conducted with two male subjects that resided in the apartment.
