A majority of Americans are criticizing President Donald Trump’s policies for soaring prices that are surpassing what they earn.
In a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, approximately 78% of the respondents, including 64% of Republicans and 76% of independents, admit some blame lies with the White House, with most Americans citing tariffs as a significant cause of higher prices.

Majorities of Republicans and Democrats have referenced the cost of living as their major concern ahead of November’s midterm elections. Approximately 57% of Republicans admit in the poll that costs increased quicker than their paychecks.
To gather data for the Reuters/Ipsos poll, researchers conducted an online and nationwide survey, gathering responses from 4,506 Americans between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll noted that respondents referenced the cost of living as a major issue in their decisions on how to vote, with 54% of people, including 40% of Republicans, admitting they felt it had increased a lot in the last year, compared with 30% who shared it was up only a little and 10% who said it was unchanged.
Separately, 45% of respondents stated that unauthorized immigration was a major cause of higher prices.

Meanwhile, the recent poll offered limited indications of Americans scaling back on spending, with 63% of respondents admitting they were eating out at restaurants less often, compared to 56% who acknowledge they were spending less on entertainment or streaming services.

Roughly one in four Republicans disapproved of Trump's handling of the economy, a perspective shared by 63% of independents and 92% of Democrats. The poll noted that displeasure with his handling of the economy was even tougher when it came to inflation, with 68% of all respondents and 40% of Republicans dissatisfied.
