HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A juvenile suspect faces two felony charges after he was arrested in a deadly crash. Two teen boys were killed at around 1:55 a.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of West Fuqua.
The male suspect, 14, has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on charges of failure to stop and render aid and racing, causing death.
The identities of the male victims, 14 and 15, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Relatives, however, identified the two boys during interviews with FOX 26 News.
"Please, parents everywhere, double check your kid when he asks you for your keys," said Ivory Hunter, aunt of Harvier Hunter, who was in Ivory's Ford Explorer when it flipped and smashed into a tree, killing him and his friend inside. "He’s only 15 years old."
Ivory said she raised her nephew, Harvier, whose parents live in Las Vegas.
“Oh, Lord, I don’t know what else to do," said Della Mae Farley, great grandmother of Sayvion Farley, who claims her great grandson was the second victim.
“Don’t go to school, hang around in the streets," said Farley. "There are only two things that could happen -- go to jail or get killed."
“I guess it was a big misunderstanding, a big accident," said Leviyas Clayton, who was a friend of the two victims. "I know they were having fun, but they shouldn’t have been racing. They got to abide by the laws out here."
Both victims were eighth grade students who attended Lawson Middle School.
A Houston Police Department officer in the area witnessed the vehicles racing and crashing. The officer drove to the crash location and saw the driver of the Expedition stop and then attempt to flee in his vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the Expedition and took the suspect into custody.
“I’m still asleep and this is just a horrible nightmare and I wish I could wake up," said Ivory.
