Houston shooting: Harris County deputy, suspect shot at end of chase on Tomball Parkway
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A Harris County deputy and a suspect were both shot during an exchange of gunfire at the end of a chase on Tuesday night, officials say.
Both were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive their injuries.

The incident began shortly after 9:30 p.m. Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the driver kept going, and a pursuit ensued, the sheriff’s office says.
Authorities say the chase came to an end when the suspect crashed in the 18800 block of the Tomball Parkway.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy tried to detain the suspect, but the suspect resisted, took out a gun and shot the deputy in the head. The sheriff's office described the deputy’s injury as a graze wound, but said it was a severe injury.
Authorities say the deputy was able to return fire, and the suspect ran away.
Sheriff’s deputies and K9 units, Houston police, Texas DPS, and deputies with the Pct. 1 and Pct. 4 constable’s offices started searching a residential area for the suspect.
Authorities say the suspect was found hiding under a trampoline behind a house. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect shot at a K9 and started hitting the dog, before deputies detained the suspect.
The sheriff’s office says the deputies started rendering aid to the suspect, including applying tourniquets. EMS was staged nearby and transported the suspect to the hospital.
The deputy, a four-year veteran of the agency, was also taken to the hospital.
The K9 was taken to the vet to be check out.
Multiple departments are investigating the shooting.
