1 dead after Houston crash involving 18-wheeler, truck on McCarty Street

The Houston Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler on 200 McCarty Street on Monday.

Officials arrived around 6:40 a.m. to find a 29-year-old driver of an 18-wheeler and a 33-year-old driver of a blue Ford F-150 in a crash.

The 18-wheeler was traveling southbound when it stopped with its left turn signal on, preparing to turn left onto Portwall Street, according to investigators.

Police say the driver of a Ford struck the rear of the trailer, and then caught on fire. The fire was put out by a person passing by the crash. 

 The Ford driver was taken to the Memorial Herman-Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the driver is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

Officials say the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. Investigations did question the driver but released him afterward. 

Authorities will release more information as the investigation continues.
