Yolanda Ford elected Missouri City mayor

Voters in Missouri City made history electing the first woman and African American as the city's mayor.

In a close runoff, Yolanda Ford beat incumbent Allen Owen who's been Missouri City's mayor for nearly a quarter of a century. Ford got 52 percent to Owen's 48 percent.

Ford has been on the city council since 2013.

She ran her campaign based on key issues such as increasing city revenue, public safety, building a more unified city, and establishing economic opportunity.

Ford takes the Oath of Office on December 17.
