Wharton High School no longer in 'lock out mode'

- The Wharton Independent School District initially released the following statement on its Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon:

NOTICE: All students are safe at Wharton High School. Due to a law enforcement incident in the vicinity of Wharton High School, the school has been placed in lock out mode where no students are entering or leaving the campus at this time. Once the suspect has been apprehended, the lock out will be released.

The district later provided the following two updates on that page:

Update 3:37 pm: WHS is no longer in lock out mode.

Notice: Lock out has been dismissed and students will be dismissed as scheduled.

This afternoon, Wharton HIgh School was placed on Lock-down at the recommendation of the Wharton ISD police department due to an activity in the neighborhood involving local law enforcement. This measure was taken to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff. At no time was any student, faculty, or staff in danger. All students were cleared from the hall and kept in their classes throughout the lock-down.
