A tragic end to the year for families in southeast Houston after a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed. Two other teenagers were also shot during what's being described as an ambush at an apartment complex, the Willa Americana apartments in southeast Houston.
This happened around 10:30 or 11:00 last night. Police cannot confirm, but they do believe that this ambush-style shooting is gang-related. Three teenagers convening in a common area of the apartment complex were approached by multiple suspects who opened fire. When the dust settled, three teenagers were shot. One dead after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. He was only 14 years old. The other two wounded were 14 and 17 years old. Both shot in the lower portions of their bodies and they are expected to survive the shooting.
Police believe this to be gang-related activity. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo addressed this issue yesterday, saying, “ We have 20,000 gang members here, 20,000 documented gang members. LA county was 50,000 documented gang members. A lot of them came here. It is an issue. We're going to be moving some of our gang unit deployments to nights so these gangsters who are out there doing their drive-by shooting and shooting up the city at night will see more gang officers at night looking for them”
The scene has been cleared, but the investigation continues. Fox 26 news will continue to update this story.
