Crash involving HFD ambulance halts traffic on Gulf Freeway

The southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway, I-45 near Beltway 8 interchange were shut down Thursday morning due to a crash involving an HFD ambulance.

Officers first responded to a crash involving three cars and an HFD ambulance on I-45 Southbound at Scarsdale exit ramp at 4:30 am. Another vehicle reportedly slammed into the back of an ambulance causing a chain reaction accident that involved two more vehicles. Emergency crews had to use the jaws-of-life to extricate the driver of one of the cars. The driver was then sent to Memorial Hermann by Life Flight helicopter. No fatalities were reported.
