Rain didn't stop Clear Lake High School homecoming game

It was a wet week for many in the Houston area. The rain wouldn’t let up and flooding was an issue, but a much different scene at Challenger Columbia Stadium on Friday night during the homecoming game, probably one of the most memorable experiences a high school student can have.

"The only thing that was making us nervous was, of course, the travel and the safety of our community as well as the safety of our athletes, so that’s the most important always,” says Clear Creek Independent School District athletic director Debbie Fuchs.

Smiles were seen all around as students wearing dresses and suits took to the field along with the football teams.

"Oh, it’s awesome, it’s like a completely different day than it was earlier today,” says Monica MacKerron.

"It’s been really bad, very soggy, glad to be outside and not wet,” says Heather Shaw.

Texas high school football is a tradition that’s tough to sideline.

"The only thing that ever stops Friday night football is lightning, so we watch the weather all day and it looked like we are going to have a break as the evening wore on and so the good Lord blessed us and we are here to play a homecoming game as well as a great preseason game with Clear Lake in Texas City,” says Fuchs.
