HOUSTON (FOX 26) - TEXARKANA, Texas (AP) - A federal inmate in East Texas a year away from his release now is facing an additional 15 years in prison after authorities say he caused the death of another prisoner. The Texarkana Gazette reports that 27-year-old Jama Jerrell Hinkle was indicted Thursday by a grand jury in Texarkana on a count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 42-year-old Brandon Ray Parker.
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (AP) - A Texas sheriff's deputy has died after he appeared to suffer a medical problem that led to a three-vehicle wreck northeast of San Antonio. The Comal County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday that deputy Ray Horn was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff's officials say Horn, an 11-year veteran of the department, was in his patrol car traveling home after work Thursday when he suffered the medical episode.
HOUSTON (AP) - Police in Houston say three people were shot and killed during an early-morning home invasion east of downtown. Authorities say a preliminary investigation appears to show that an armed resident of the home defended himself by firing on at least four suspects who stormed the residence early Saturday. Police found the body of one suspect outside in front of the home. Another suspect who fled collapsed nearby and died. The body of a third suspect was found in a vehicle that fled the scene.
HOUSTON (AP) - Restoration work on a historic Houston mural damaged by Hurricane Harvey is soon to be complete after floodwaters seeped into the structure, causing paint to pop off and mold to grow. The Houston Chronicle reports that muralist John Biggers' 1953 artwork, "Contribution of Negro Women to American Life and Education," is expected to be fully repaired before the end of the month. The Houston Museum of Fine Arts initially treated the mural in the city's Third Ward after the August 2017 storm.
DALLAS (AP) - Justin Timberlake has pulled some sunshine from his pocket for the patients at a Texas children's hospital.
Timberlake took a break from his "Man of the Woods" tour to pop in and pose for pictures with the young patients at HCA Healthcare's Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio.
A video of the kids was widely shared all week, with many in their hospital beds as they danced to Timberlake's hit "Can't Stop The Feeling" with its refrain of "got some sunshine in my pocket." The kids held up signs that read "JT See me!" and on Friday afternoon JT obliged.
