Kelvin Sampson, who was a candidate to become the next head coach of the Orlando Magic, will continue running the basketball team at the University of Houston.
“I am no longer involved with the Orlando Magic,” Sampson said. “Met with them multiple times. Both of us are going to go in a different direction. I am going to be at U of H.”
ESPN reports the Magic are hiring former Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford.
This past season Sampson, who has been with the University of Houston since the 2014-15 season, led the Cougars to their first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1984.
