A man and woman are dead after an murder-suicide at a motel in west Houston.

It happened around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Red Roof Inn on Westheimer near Sam Houston Parkway.

Police say the woman's 4-year-old son went to the front desk of the motel saying a man shot his mom.

The man and woman were found dead in a third floor room.

Houston police had been on the lookout for the man on Tuesday, after receiving a call from Marine Corps PD in California with concerns about a marine who may have been in Houston.

Friends of the marine reported that he’d been saying something suicidal in a video on social media.

Bryanna Lapsley says the victim is her sister, Brittany Smith. Lapsley says her sister had moved to Houston from California a few weeks ago. She says the two wanted to be closer after Smith left a man she’d been dating for about 3 years. Lapsley did not know him and says her sister did not reveal many details about their relationship.

"I didn’t like the fact that he came out here to get her," Lapsley told FOX 26.

She says she tried to get her sister to leave the hotel and come back to her apartment. Now, Lapsley hopes Smith's story can help save someone else’s life.

"Listen to your family members. If they tell you to leave —and get out. Listen. Leave far away. Keep no contact and report him," she added.

Lapsley says her nephew greeted her happily like he always does is told her his mommy is dead.

"It broke me down. I started crying," she recalled. "I told him it’s going to be okay. It’s going to be okay. He’ll be okay."

It's unknown what lead to the shooting.

The little boy was not injured, but was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Lapsley says the plan is for him to go to Arizona to be with his father.
