Family of mother murdered in Channelview wants justice

Edna “Coco” McWhorter’s family is pleading for justice as the search continues for her killer.

Her mother, Theresa McWhorter, spoke exclusively with FOX 26.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has charged 38-year-old Jerry Wayne Greer with her murder. Greer also goes by Rick.

The two were seen arguing outside of a Channelview nightclub early Saturday morning. Investigators say Greer shot her in the chest and fled in a dark-colored Ford Mustang.

“He needs to be caught. Justice needs to be [done],” Theresa added tearfully.

Theresa says her daughter had pressed sexual assault charges against Greer. Someone who overheard their argument on Saturday say Greer confronted her about the case.

Records with the Harris County District Clerk’s Office show Greer has been charged with multiple violent crimes in the past.

Theresa says she had met Greer.

A family member says McWhorter and Greer met through trail riding. Greer was the president of one the clubs, and, for McWhorter, it was something she did to honor her late father.

Friends of McWhorter believe Greer is still in the Houston area.

Theresa hopes someone will spot him and call authorities.

She says now the hardest part is telling her three grandchildren their mother is gone. Her oldest is only 10-years-old.

Anyone with information on Greer’s whereabouts is urged to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit

Investigators say he was last seen in a dark-colored Ford Mustang.

The victim's family has created a fundraiser to help cover the funeral expenses.
