HOCKLEY, Texas (FOX 26) - The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a reported apparent accidental self-inflicted shooting of a child.
Deputies arrived at around 6:32 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Dunham Lake Drive in the Hockley area.
The child, who was later identified as the stepson of an HCSO sergeant, was taken by Life Flight medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez later posted on Twitter that the child is "battling for his life."
The four year old underwent surgery but "remains very critical."
Harris County investigators say two adults and some children where in the house when the event occurred.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office will determine if any charges will be filed in the shooting.
