Missing Fort Hood soldier safe with family, officials say

Fort Hood officials say a soldier missing since last week has been found safe.

Pfc. Jennifer Sewell's family confirmed to her chain-of-command Sunday evening that she is safe and with extended family.

Officials are still communicating with her family and friends "to ensure she has access to resources she may need and to return her safely to Fort Hood."

"Pfc. Sewell is a valued member of our team, and our number one priority is ensuring her safe return. We are in regular contact with her family and will provide any assistance she and her family may need to return to Fort Hood," said Ltc. Octavia Davis, commander of Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment.

Officials say they are respecting the family's privacy and will not be providing any additional information on this at this time.

Sewell was last seen leaving her on-post barracks at around 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7. Her unit later reported that she failed to report to work and attempts from law enforcement, chain-of-command, and her family to contact her had initially been unsuccessful, say Fort Hood officials.

The military post said that it appeared Sewell left on her own accord for unknown reasons according to an initial investigation.
