HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Some of the Houston-area Muslim community gathered at the Islamic Society of Greater Houston River Oaks Islamic Center on Sunday night to watch the second presidential debate between candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
A group of Muslim men, women and children paid close attention to what was said and that is exactly what organizers of the gathering say they wanted for an election in which they feel the Muslim vote is as important as ever.
"I realized so few people knew what was being said about us," says Zainab Ghwari, who organized the late evening gathering. "So much of it is about us but without us, so I felt what better way to bring it to the Muslim consciousness than to bring it to our spaces, spaces we already occupy."
Overall, most people in attendance say they hope the topic of Islamaphobia will be discussed further in the third debate.
