Ed Gonzalez elected Harris County Sheriff

There's a new sheriff in town. Voters elected Ed Gonzalez over Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman, who was appointed to the spot when Adrian Garcia left to run for mayor.

Gonzalez is a former Houston city council member who served three terms and also served as mayor pro tem and the chair of the council's public safety and Homeland Security committee. Gonzalez was also a Houston police officer for 18 years and worked his way up through the ranks working as a homicide detective and a negotiator.

Gonzalez wrapped up his victory speech saying his dad passed away a few years ago and his mom is battling dementia right now but he says he knows his mother is proud of him.
