Houston City Council has approved a resolution allowing the city to bid on hosting the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

"This is about marketing Houston and letting the world know me as are open for business after Hurricane Harvey," said Mayor Sylvester Turner in a Twitter post. "This is a big step in the competitive process."

“This is about Houston and after Harvey letting the world know that we are open for business,” said Mayor Turner during the council meeting. He asserted that the convention would bring great business to hotels and showcase the city.
