UH's Demarcus Ayers declares for NFL Draft

Following UH's 38-24 win over Florida State in the Peach Bowl, receiver Demarcus Ayers told FOX 26 he'll be declaring early for the NFL Draft.

The junior just finished a season in which he was first-team All-AAC as both a receiver and punt return specialist.

"I'm going to declare for the NFL Draft," Ayers said after the game."It was a very tough decisiion but just speaking to my family, and talking to everybody this morning. everybody let me know, 'D.A., go out with a bang.'

"That's what we've been talking about the whole time," Ayers added. "I've gotten so close to my dreams, and it's really hard to put in perspective how I'm feeling right now. Just come out here and be the best team and win with my brothers one last time. Man, it's been a long road, a long journey and I'm proud."

In the Peach Bowl, Ayers led UH with nine catches for 82 yards. He also threw a touchdown pass to Chance Allen and rushed for 17 yards. That lifted his season totals to 98 catches for more than 1200 yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Ayers also had a punt return touchdown this season.

"I feel good about where I'm at right now," Ayers said. "I'm going to keep getting better, keep getting stronger, faster."
