HOUSTON - Sources close to the University of Houston told FOX 26 Sports Hunter Yurachek, University of Houston vice president for athletics, met with Coach Tom Herman earlier this week and officially offered him a contract extension, including a seven-figure increase in total compensation.
UH made their move well before ESPN’s report on Thursday that Herman could have a deal done with LSU as early as Saturday.
Also, according to sources close to the University of Houston, the only school that has officially contacted the UH athletic department to speak with Herman is Baylor, and permission was granted.
When reached by cell phone, Yurachek only said he is not aware of any negotiations between Herman and LSU. He did not comment on anything else.
"I have not been informed by Tom or his agent that he is in conversations with LSU," Yurachek said. "We are in Memphis together, preparing for a game."
The Cougars flew to Memphis Thursday afternoon for their game on Friday against the Tigers.
