Texas State expresses interest in Major Applewhite

Officials from Texas State have contacted University of Houston offensive coordinator Major Applewhite as they search for a new head coach according to sources close to Applewhite.

The Bobcats job opened when Dennis Franchione retired.

Sources close to Applewhite's situation told FOX 26 Sports he may listen to what Texas State has to say.

However, those same sources indicate that Applewhite is very happy working for Cougars head coach Tom Herman and is very excited about the future at UH.

FOX 26 Sports was also told it would take a phenomenal situation for Applewhite to leave Houston.

Applewhite helped Herman lead the Cougars to the American Athletic Conference championship and a victory over Florida State in the Peach Bowl.

The San Marcos Daily Record first reported Texas State's interest in Applewhite.
