John Lucas returns to Rockets organization

NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports former NBA player and coach John Lucas is joining the Houston Rockets staff and will be in charge of player development.

Lucas spent a great deal of time around the Rockets organization last season working with then Rockets guard Ty Lawson.

Lucas is nationally known for his work with athletes who have had or are dealing with off-the-court issues.

The Rockets drafted Lucas with the 1st-overall pick in the 1976 NBA Draft.

He played with Houston from 1976-1978, 1984-1986 and again during the 1989-90 season.

Lucas, who played 14 years in the NBA, has also been an NBA head coach with the San Antonio Spurs (1992-94), Philadelphia 76ers (1994-96) and Cleveland Cavaliers (2001-03).
