The Harris County-Houston Sports Authority will host the inaugural Houston Sports Awards on Feb. 6 at the Wortham Center in downtown Houston.

The event will honor the best Houston has to offer at every sports level, professional, college and high school.

The Houston Sports Awards will also celebrate Houston’s greatest athletes, past and present, plus the city’s top sports moments.

According to those familiar with the function the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority will focus on 10 categories, which will include the athlete of the year from the professional, college and high school levels.

The Sports Authority will also honor the executive of the year, coach of the year, the event of the year, moment of the year and fan of the year.

The event will also include the presentation of a lifetime achievement award and a sportsmanship award.

A panel made up of members of the Houston media will select the winners of each category.

All of the professional sports organizations in Houston, including the Astros, Rockets, Texans, Dynamo and Dash and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, are in support of the event.

On Aug. 28 the presidents from each of those organizations, plus city and county officials, are expected to attend the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority’s formal announcement of the first-annual Houston Sports Awards.
