Astros in the hunt to land Edwin Encarnacion

- The Astros are one of the teams free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion is seriously considering.

His agent, Paul Kinzer, acknowledged the Astros' efforts to land his client.

"It's a great fit," Kinzer told FOX 26 Sports. "It makes sense."

However, Kinzer said any speculation the Astros, or any team, is close to an agreement for Encarnacion is inaccurate.

"All these rumors are false," Kinzer said. "Edwin and I are in the Dominican. We aren't in Houston.

"There's no deals that are imminent.

Having said that, Kinzer also pointed out that his client would approve of a getting a deal done with the Astros.

"He likes it," Kinzer said. "He thinks it's a great fit."

As for the Astros' interest in his client, "you'll have to ask them, but I think they appreciate Edwin as a player and a person."

Kinzer does not expect anything to get done with Encarnacion before next week.

"I don't feel anything's going to happen before the Winter Meetings, but now that the collective bargaining is settled, there could be one phone call (Thursday)."

Encarnacion tied for the American League lead in RBIs in 2016 with 127, while hitting .263 with 42 home runs for the Toronto Blue Jays.

He is a three-time American League All Star, including 2016
