Herman: Greg Ward the starting QB if healthy

- If healthy, Greg Ward will return as UH's starting quarterback this week against Connecticut.

The #24 Cougars are coming off a 35-34 win over #21 Memphis on Saturday night. Those rankings are from the College Football Playoff Committee. Following the Saturday action, Houston moved up to 13th in the AP poll and 14th in the coaches poll.

During Saturday's game, Ward went down with an ankle injury shortly before the half. At the time, the Cougars trailed 20-0.  Backup Kyle Postma came in, had almost 300 all-purpose yards, accounted for two touchdowns (including the game winner), and helped lead Houston to the comeback victory.

There's no quarterback controversy, however. Ward has accounted for 29 touchdowns this season. His 16 rushing TD's are three off the national lead. His name has been mentioned for Heisman consideration.

A day after the injury, a day after the victory, Tom Herman described Ward's activity during Sunday practice.

"He jogged around (lightly), didn't do a whole lot," Herman said. "Hopefully, by Tuesday, he'll be a lot better."

Asked if Ward would be playing this week against UConn if he's healthy, Herman said, "Yeah, if he's 100 percent. Yeah."
