Astros trade pitcher Scott Feldman to Toronto Blue Jays

- Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow has announced that the team has acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Lupe Chavez from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman.

Chavez, 18, is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA (6ER/32IP) in six starts this season for the Rookie Level Gulf Coast League Blue Jays. He has allowed just 29 hits and four walks in his 32.0 innings of work this season, posting a 1.03 WHIP. A native of Sinaloa, Mexico, Chavez is in his second professional season after signing with the Blue Jays as an international free agent in July of 2014. In his two seasons, Chavez owns an 11-3 record and a 2.41 ERA (25ER/93.1IP) in 20 games (19 starts).

Feldman, 33, has a record of 5-3 with a 2.90 ERA (20ER/62IP) in 26 games (five starts) for the Astros during the 2016 season. He was in the third and final year of a three-year contract signed with the Astros in December of 2013.

With the removal of Feldman, the Astros roster was trimmed from 40 to 39, but the team later called up pitcher Joe Musgraves from its Triple-A affiliate Fresno Grizzlies to return the roster to forty players.
