WATCH: Toddler with Down syndrome learns to talk through music

At two years old, Bo Gray has his own theme song: You Are My Sunshine.

Amanda Bowman Gray, the mother of Bo, who was born with Down syndrome, said she asked her 11-year-old daughter, Lydia, to watch Bo while she showered. She said when she walked out of her room, she witnessed the power of music therapy. Lydia was playing guitar and singing to Bo as he happily joined in and sung along.

Amanda shared the video to her Facebook page, writing that her son only knew how to say 12 words. In the video, Bo can be heard singing the words to “You Are My Sunshine” along with his sister, emphasizing words like “away” and “happy.”

Amanda wrote, “Every word he has learned has been through music and singing.”

The song is also special to the family as Amanda and her husband Caleb sang the song to Bo when he was recovering in the hospital from heart surgery.

“This was the first time that he moved as he reacted to the familiarity of the song and our voices,” she wrote, calling the song his theme song.
