Police investigate mom for child abuse after video goes viral

A disturbing video is making the rounds on Facebook showing a woman kicking and throwing things at a small child.

The southwest Detroit woman was caught on camera swearing at her 9-year-old daughter and throwing things, went viral on Facebook.

"OK, it's wrong, cussing up my daughter," said Robin Parent. "A lot of people do it and they don't want to admit it."

Parent says she is getting hundreds of angry and threatening messages after the video surfaced Thursday on Facebook.

The video, taken by a concerned neighbor, shows the single mother of six, throwing things, yelling, and swearing at her 9-year-old daughter.

"My daughter was having an outburst, and she started throwing stuff throughout the house," Parent said. "The last time she had a fit like that like screaming and kicking, she threw a boot and it hit my 11-month-old baby."

She also says that she accidentally scratched her daughter's neck.

"The only thing she has on her is a scratch right here, " she said.

FOX 2: "From what?"

"From when she was trying to hit me and bite me," Parent said. "I went to grab her and I got a scratch on her right here."

Since the video was posted, Child Protective Services have stepped in to investigate any signs of abuse from any of Parent's children, who range in age from 1 year of age to 14.

"The part where I was cussing at my daughter, it was after 30 to 40 minutes of my daughter kicking me in my legs," Parent said. "And I was wrong for the cussing part, but now there's thousands of people who think I was punching my daughter in the face."

Parent's six children are staying temporarily in a house nearby, until CPS continues their investigation.

She said she has had Child Protective Services called on her in the past. She added that, she is wrong to swear and yell, but says, she is not an abuser.

FOX 2: "What is abuse to you?"

"I don't believe in putting your hands on kids period," Parent said. "Unless they're seriously doing something wrong. And abuse, I don't know, punching? Kicking them, I don't really know?"

CPS workers are now interviewing the children to determine the next step for the family.
