A Dallas couple has their baby back four months after he was switched at birth.

Richard Cushworth and his wife Mercedes hugged and kissed their son when they were reunited with him Monday night in El Salvador.

Baby Jacob was born there in May. El Salvador is his mother’s native country.

Mercedes said she suspected her baby was switched the day after she gave birth. And after the couple returned home to Dallas it was even more obvious that his features did not resemble theirs.

A DNA test proved he was not their biological child.

They returned to El Salvador and accused a doctor of taking their baby and selling him to human traffickers because of his fairer skin.

“And God has given us this child and somehow, somebody has taken him from us, and we want him back. It’s a horrible situation for me and for her, for my family and her family. A child is an experience you have for a lifetime. They give you grandchildren. I mean, this is a life-long journey that’s very, very deep and it’s horrible,” Cushworth said.

Investigators track down all the other boys born on the same day and tested their DNA. The couple's biological child was returned them and the other baby is expected to be reunited with his biological parents too.

There is now a criminal investigation and the doctor involved has been arrested.
