Woman who claimed self-defense is now charged in the stabbing death of husband


A woman who previously claimed self-defense after a stabbing in southeast Houston has now been charged with murder. Charges have been filed against Maria Martinez, 31 arrested in the fatal stabbing of her common-law husband at 3700 Lazywood about 11:25 p.m. on Monday, March 5th. According to HPD, the identity of her 26-year-old common-law husband has not been released.


Homicide detectives said Martinez and her common-law husband were driving in their vehicle near the above address when they got into an argument.  Police say that Martinez then stabbed her husband in the chest.  He was transported by HFD paramedics to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 


Martinez was detained and subsequently charged for her role in her husband's death.
