HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A woman has been charged with murder in a vehicle crash that ended with the death of a 7-year-old child and left two other young children injured.
Edith Abrego, 29, was charged in the July 7 early-morning crash that killed the young child, who was thrown from a white Nissan Rogue on Maxey Road southbound near Woodforest Boulevard in northeast Houston. The two other children who were in the car, ages four and six, were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with injuries determined not to be life-threatening. Abrego was also taken to that hospital.
Investigators say Abrego failed to maintain a single lane, drove into a grassy area, struck a speed limit sign and a light pole, which sent the Rogue airborne and caused it to land on its driver side in the parking lot of a business.
After charges were filed against Abrego, she was taken into custody on Friday.
