We expect to learn more today about the condition of a Southern University football player who was injured during Saturday's game against the University of Georgia.

Wide receiver Devon Gales fractured bones in his neck when he threw a block during the third quarter.  The hit happened near Georgia's sideline.

Gales was being treated at Athens Regional Medical Center.  On Wedneday,  he was transferred to Shepherd Center in Atlanta for spinal cord injury rehabilitation.   Shepherd Center and Southern University will hold a joint news conference today at 1:30pm to update us on his condition.

Athens Regional Medical Center's  Spokesperson Mike Pilcher told FOX 5 News the facility has been inundated with calls, emails, and gifts. In fact, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt and other staffers visited Gales Sunday. Pilcher said the University of Georgia paid for Gales' family to come visit him as well as provided them with a place to stay.
