14-year-old being called a person of interest in the shooting death of grandparents

Chambers County sheriff's deputies were called to the 11 thousand block of Cedar Gulley Road in Beach City.

They were doing a truancy check.

"They were talking to a student on the telephone and he had expressed to them that there may be someone injured at this house," said Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne. "We dispatched EMS and a deputy and upon arrival they discovered two deceased people in the house."

The Sheriff wouldn't release the names of the victims Tuesday night but described them as husband and wife both in their 70's and each shot one time in the head.

The couple was found in a back bedroom.

Their 14-year-old grandson was at the home when deputies arrived and was taken into custody.

Hawthorne described the teen as being non emotional and lethargic when being questioned by investigators.

The sheriff offered no possible motive and said the boy is now in the custody of juvenile authorities.

The double murder happened in a fairly exclusive part of Beach City.

The homes sit on Trinity Bay and a few of them are worth millions.

Vernon Williams has lived next door to the deceased couple for the last 11 years.

"I never really saw any issues at all during the 11 years we've been here," Williams said.

Williams said the couple pretty much raised their grandson and was shocked to hear what deputies say happened.

"Absolutely I'm still trying to take all of this in " Williams said.

The eighth grader is described as a special needs student.
