Tropical storm Nate forms in the western Caribbean, on track to threaten Gulf Coast

- Tropical Depression 16 has strengthened to Tropical Storm Nate near the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua and is expected to bring rain to an area from New Orleans to Tampa this weekend. The U.S. Gulf coast areas from Florida to Alabama, Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana may be at risk for damaging winds, coastal flooding, rough surf and beach erosion this weekend and into early next week.

Nate's intensity forecast is highly uncertain because of its interaction with land. It’s unlikely that it will have a significant affect on Houston weather. There is a tropical wave over Florida that could bring us some weekend showers and could interact with Nate making for a complicated forecast for th northern Gulf Coast.
