HOUSTON (FOX 26) - There are some high profile African Americans in the Houston area who have been forced to deal with law enforcement and the legal system. And what do they do when they're in trouble, according to one group?
They hire white attorneys.
For example, when former Texas Southern University president Dr. Priscilla Slade got into trouble in 2006 for misspending university funds, she hired attorney Mike Degeurin. When NFL running back Adrian Peterson was charged with injury to a child in 2014, he hired Rusty Hardin. When Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell was arrested in a bogus bond scheme, he hired attorney Dan Cogdell. Just a few of the high-profile black people all hiring high-profile white attorneys. Is there a problem with that?
It is a conversation developing among black attorneys. General practice attorney Jolanda Jones along with criminal defense attorneys Letitia Quinones and Wilvin Carter discuss the matter with Isiah Carey.
