The sixth leading cause of death in the United States is Alzheimer’s.
The disease kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease. That could rise as high as 16 million by 2050.
Not only does it take an emotional toll on family taking care of their loved one, it's also expensive. Alzheimer's and dementia will cost the nation $259 billion this year.
While there is no cure as of yet, the push to end the disease continues. Jo Smith with the Alzheimer's Association is on the Factor to talk about efforts in the area.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place on October 7 at Town Green Park in The Woodlands, 2099 Lake Robbins Drive. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the 5K walk is at 8 a.m.
