HOUSTON (FOX 26) - There’s a local effort to help protect an important piece of Houston history. It's a house on Bagby Street that's now covered in graffiti and boarded up windows.
It turns out that it used to be the clubhouse headquarters during the Mexican American civil rights movement. Once, the League of United Latin American Citizens Council 60 used this home as its base of operations.
Now in the middle of another eventful period in American history when it comes to Latino and Hispanic representation, LULAC and faculty from the University of Houston Downtown is working to preserve this house as a symbol for the future.
Dr. Gene Preuss from UHD and LULAC Council 60 President Ray Valdez are on the Factor to talk more about this.
