Mayor hopes to unite MLK Day parades

- It's something that's divided folks for years – two Martin Luther King Jr. Day parades each year nearly at the same time. There’s the “original” MLK Jr. Birthday Parade and the MLK Grande Parade in Midtown.

But now Houston’s mayor says he hopes to make the two into one.

"I've always been heartbroken by the fact that there are multiple parades on Martin Luther King Day," Mayor Sylvester Turner says. "It is my hope to be able to join these parades into one. And I talked with several of the groups. But after today I'm going to ask Houstonians, corporate leaders, business community, people themselves to just get behind one."

He says this year was the last time we'll have two separate parades on MLK Day.

On the Factor to talk about the tale of two parades is Cindy George with the Houston Chronicle and Dr. Kendall L Baker, senior pastor at Christ Solid International Church.
