Firefighter fired for claiming to be Harvey victim, taking relief money

- A Houston firefighter has been fired after taking advantage of Harvey-related relief funds. We have learned that a firefighter, whose name we know but we're not releasing, was fired from the department within the last two weeks after he lied and claimed he was a victim of Hurricane Harvey.

After that, we're told that firefighter received two $500 gift cards. One from the International Association of Professional Firefighters and one from a state firefighters' organization. That firefighter then went into a group chat and bragged about getting the money set aside for firefighters who actually receive damage from the storm.

Here’s the disturbing part. The Factor has learned there could be other firefighters who may have received the cards and did not deserve them. How many and for how much?

So why should you care if firefighters slip a few $500 gift cards in their back pockets that they may not deserve? Houston City Councilman Michael Kubosh and local 341 Union President Marty Lancton join us now to talk about that and why this is a trust issue.
