Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation puts books in barber shops

When you think about former first lady Barbara Bush, the last thing you would likely think about is black barbershops. Well, there is a connection.

Mrs. Bush’s literacy foundation provides books to about 17 barbers in Houston as part of the Little Free Library Program.

As part of the program, barbershops have 50 books on their shelves to help young people read. It’s like a small library available to kids as they wait to get their haircuts.

The Houston Public Library System is also part of the partnership.
