Houston Super Bowl Host Committee to unveil new mascot

- The Houston Super Bowl Host Committee will introduce its mascot to Houston on Sunday at the Chevron Houston Marathon. The mascot, whose name is TD, will participate in the Mascot vs. Media Challenge. TD, who will sport a football uniform with the number "51" to represent the Super Bowl next year, will be a family-friendly presence for the Host Committee in the community. TD will serve as an ambassador for the Host Committee in and around Houston, making many public appearances to promote awareness and excitement for Super Bowl LI, which will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston on February 5, 2017.

"TD is one of the many ways we hope to engage local Houstonians and potential visitors to our city and throughout the region," Host Committee president and CEO Sallie Sargent said. "He's going to be a great representative for the Host Committee as we promote our community and generate excitement for hosting Super Bowl LI."

TD will run a relay with three other local mascots - the Astros' Orbit, the Dynamo's Diesel, and the Rockets' Clutch the Bear. Each mascot will run a 6.55-mile leg to complete the marathon and will be racing against four members of the local media. TD will run the second leg of the relay.
