The Breakdown - Melania's mission

“Be Best" was trending today in reference to first lady Melania Trump.

We're breaking down the main take-aways from her announcement of how she wants to help improve the well-being of all American children.

“Every child should know it is safe to make mistakes and that there are supportive adults and friends nearby,” Melania Trump said.

New numbers from a CNN/SSRS poll show 57 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of first lady Melania Trump – up from only 24 percent in February after taking office.

“Today I am very excited to announce ‘Be Best’, an awareness campaign dedicated to the most valuable and fragile among us,” Melania Trump said.

The first lady wants to focus on improving the well-being of children through a focus on three subjects: well-being, social media use and opioid abuse

Representatives from big tech companies like Google and Facebook were on-hand for the announcement.

"I do believe that children should be both seen and heard. And it is our responsibility as adults to educate and remind them that when they are using their voices, either verbally or online, they must choose their words wisely and speak with respect and compassion,” Melania Trump said.

She also had several students whose stories serve as her inspiration.

“Think for example, Christian Box, a young man from York,” Melania Trump said.

Christian invented the "Buddy Bench", a program that has gone nationwide to create inclusive school environments.

“I plan to highlight ideas and programs such as ‘Buddy Bench’. Children deserve every opportunity to enjoy their innocence,” Melania Trump said.
