The Breakdown - city proclamation for Lakewood Church

Almost one year ago on this day, Lakewood Church opened as a shelter to Hurricane Harvey victims. Pastor Joel Osteen spoke with FOX 26 News on that day and was forced to address why it took so long to make the facility available to those victims.

Lakewood Church did accept thousands of people during Harvey and states that it has given $5 million of support to the relief effort.

Pastor Osteen was presented with a proclamation from the City of Houston by Mayor Sylvester Turner for post-Harvey recovery efforts. The proclamation was sponsored by Houston City Council member Jack Christie.

Based on comments from Facebook and replies on Twitter, there are people who disagree with the proclamation for Lakewood Church. They accused Pastor Osteen of trying to avoid helping Harvey victims until public pressure became overwhelming.
